Good morning

I have a System 18 D.D Crew to convert to Moonwalker.

I have some doubts that I need you to solve for me, since the tutorial that was uploaded at the time, or the @AlxUnderBase notes regarding this, have disappeared.

I have a Romboard Rev. B. I imagine it might work, from the photo I've seen of a conversion done by @ShootTheCore on this board.

I have to replace the MCU processor with a motorola 68000. But... which one?
-MC68000P8
-MC68000P10
-MC68000P12
-MC68000L12
- MC68HC000LC8 ---> Fantastic look with those golden tones
- Etc.....

The moonwalker needs 17 eproms to work, which eprom model do you recommend? 27C200 x 17 Units?

I think there is a rom pack, which fixed some glitches in the game, made by @ShootTheCore or @Mitsurugi-w . Is it possible to post a link to them?

Thank you

You’ll need 16 X 27C020 EPROMs and 1 X 27C100 / 27C1000 EPROM (for socket A4).

The Moonwalker conversion ROMs to work with a regular 68000 CPU were created by Apocalypse. They aren’t available directly to download on the AP forums but if you PM me then I can share a download link with you.

If you need any EPROMs programmed, I can also do that for free - I just ask you cover shipping.

All you need to follow to do on your pcb is :

1 : replace FD-1094 from your motherboard with MC68000-P10
2 : follow the JUMPERS positions from this picture (is the Moonwalker conversion with Apocalypse patch ive did in the past - post is still available here : https://twitter.com/djalexunderbase/status/1129158442185318400?s=46&t=K6eY8gqkwmMqHE9xzSGFFQ )
3 : use 16 x 27c020 or equivalent and see where i placed them on romboard + 1 x 27c100 / 27c1000 / 27c301 for A4 position with Apocalypse patch writed on the eeprom => mwalk.zip

Cheers

@AlxUnderBase i have some dobuts again.

For the A4, i´m going to use the 27C1000 because is more easy to get here in Spain, but this Eprom have a lot of versions to buy, what choose?

MX27C1000PC-70 IC DIP-32 1MBit

MX27C1000PC-12 IC DIP-32

MX27C1000DC-12 IC DIP-32

MBM27C1000-20Z IC DIP-32

For The 27C020 i have this versions:

TMS27C020-15JL IC CDIP-32 EPROM 256Kx8

TMS27C020-12JL IC CDIP-32 UVPROM 256KX8

AM27C020-200DC IC DIP-32 EPROM 256K x 8

What choose?

I saw that in your board, @ShootTheCore used 27C2001, Can i use this too?

Thank You

A 27C2001 only works properly if you double the data before writing it to the chip - it’s easier to just get the right chip in the first place. I just used that EPROM because it was what I already had lying around.

As for which version of chip to get, the number at the end is the chip’s response time (ie 70ns, 120ns, 150ns, 200ns). 12 = 120 in this case, as does 15 = 150.

My rules of thumb is to always go 150ns or lower, so any of the chips in your list except the ones that end with 20 or 200 will work fine.

Thank You @ShootTheCore. Last questions
using the M27C1000 for the A4 do I need to duplicate the information to fill it out? What is the difference between the PC and DC version?

You can write the A4 ROM with the file from MAME directly if you’re using a 27C1000 EPROM.

As for the difference between the PC and DC EPROMs, it looks like the DC is erasable (has a window on top) while the PC can only be written once (no window). Therefore, get the DC version so you can rewrite the chip if necessary.

Hello Again

I have programmed the roms. You will see that the A4 eprom (sound) is missing, it has not arrived yet, but the problem I have is not related to it.
I have programmed all 16 eproms, using the WOWRoms mwalker.zip file. Of course, the A5 and A6 eproms have been programmed with the NO MCU files.

My romboard is 5987

I have placed the roms following the scheme of this photo, as well as the jumpers.

My problem is that the white screen appears with several elements, wrong colors, etc.

i´m using a wellom VP598 for programming

Thank You

Good to hear!

What was the fix for the issue?
