Hi, new here and this is my first Sega machine.

I noticed on my Virtua Fighter 2 original cabinet the left joystick is a bit loose. No issues with contacts or anything, it responds no problem; the left stick just has way more play than the right stick which I find a bit annoying. I’m new to the Model 2s.

Anyone know how I can just tighten it up a bit so it doesnt rattle around as much? Videos I see are all for Sanwa, etc. The owner’s manual gives me a part number for the joystick but doesn’t say who makes it so I can figure out how it’s built to fix it.

Again, contact is fine - just want to tighten it up so it isn’t as loose. Thanks!

Yep! Here is the affected one. Can’t really see it visually

Your control panel probably has 2 latches that allows it to swing back and open ... you'll be able to "see" the issue a lot better once flipped

ps: You're missing a dust cover (95-0195-00) on top.... which also protect pinching your hand/fingers

It does have two latches that cause it to open up. I haven’t opened it up yet as I find the manual isn’t the clearest and wanted to know more about what I should be poking around for before I opened too much.

haha ;) there's nothing in there that you can touch too much

go for it!

Haha true. I made a video about it about an hour or two, it was actually pretty easy to open, though it still felt like a loose screw. Going inside nothing seemed hugely apparent to me. I mean, I guess it could have been the spring but it just feels like a loose screw. Could not see where that would be though. Presumably inside the joystick array.

With the schema above, i think you are equipped to disassemble that joystick and perhaps find what is wrong! You might have to order just a broken or used part but these are very cheap joysticks and you could simply replace the whole thing for 10$.
You got this!

It did look pretty simple in terms of contacts and how it attaches to the console. Also cool to see another someone from “back home” - I’m from the Outaouais and did a lot of projects in Montreal (they were in French though).
