Just was looking for very low noise fan replacement for my PS2 and CPS2 and what do you know Noctua released the perfect fan for CPS2:

https://noctua.at/en/nf-a6x15-flx

Airflow is 23.4 m³/h (13.77CFM)
Acoustical noise 19,8 dB(A)

The current replacement fan I have in CPS2 is a Sunon.

https://www.candycabclub.com/product/fan

Airflow 12CFM
Acoustical noise 43.5dB

I just put an order in for two of the Noctua fans will report back when I have it installed.

The following air flow numbers are the ratings from the maunufactuer, I converted them to a common scale but have no way to verify them.

It’s only a relatively cheap dB meter my background noise was 42dB.

Original fan 55dB 22cfm
Papst 43dB 11.2cfm
Sunnon 43.5dB 12cfm
Gelid 48dB 16cfm
Whoops. I took the readings from this post, but I forgot there would have been other factors at play when measuring them IRL?

Hi :)

Personal opinion :saint:

I don't know what disease has pushed everyone to install Noctua everywhere in Arcade Systems :S

It's really not suitable for everything.

all you're going to gain is to reduce the life of the components, all in the name of absolute silence, I have the impression of seeing consumers of home video game consoles, that they want silence on their Arcade system X/

There are brands much more adaptable than Noctua, like SUNON, DELTA, Sanyo DENKI "SAN ACE) etc...

I don't understand all this Hype around Noctua for this type of old arcade equipment ?(

Arcade Systems with a PC-based Architecture yes ok, I agree, but on CPS2 ,Naomi, etc...., I don't see the technical interest? if not to reduce the life of the components to the detriment of silence

In home use Noctuas are fine. The factory fans are specced for continuous 24h use in poorly ventilated spaces.

All I know is that the Noctua would perform roughly the same in a similar test environment. You won't hear either fan inside a cab.

If you are a heathen like me and mainly play on a supergun ran through a tink 4k, silence is nice.

The stock fans are exceptionally worn and loud when sitting within 6 ft outside of a cabinet.

At some point I hope to have enough space to do dedicated cabinets but it isn't realistic for now.

I meant you can't hear either the Sunon or the Noctua. The original fan is indeed loud, even more so if it's a 30 year old one.

OP is replacing a Sunon with a Noctua. There is nothing to gain.

Hi! :)

I did a test once on an Atomiswave motherboard.

I switched from Nidec to Noctua.

Static pressure ventilation result of the Noctua not satisfactory for me, not enough airflow coming out of the motherboard :S X/
I replaced it with the SUNON MagLev Vapo

Bro, go FULL heathen and use a MiSTer with a Misteraddons metal case, no fan. Pretty silent!

I'm the same way, I have plenty of cabs and even a CPS2 multi and MiSTer, but I find myself playing my real CPS2 games (what few I have) and want that fan as quiet as possible. My current US A board has the fan unplugged in fact. I hope I don't burn up my Street Fighter game...

Tempted to try mister. I just love original
hardware.
I've tried some emulators for consoles and it just doesn't do it for me.
Nothing wrong with a mister. Or emulation. Just not exactly my cup of tea.
I appear to be super sensitive to inaccuracies.

An emulator in an original arcade machine is an arcade machine that has no soul for me .

It's like installing an electric motor in a prestigious thermal car instead of its original thermal engine.X/

The emulator is like if you talk to me about the MP3 format and I listen to the Wave format, it's also like if you talk to me about non-alcoholic wine and I about French wine with, etc.:whistling:

In the Manga Hokuto no Ken, you have the character Toki the real Art Hokuto Ujō Ken (Original Hardware ), is an ancestral art born 1800 years ago in China and you talk to me about Amiba (emulator) a low-end copier :D

But the MisTer is more than just emulation though

The fact that a lot of arcade cores are near identical to the original experience says a lot

At the end of the day it's about enjoying the game

I too love original hardware
I love looking at it while it's running a game I'm playing
I love being able to insert my carts into the system plug a supergun I'm and turn on the switch

I love all that

I also love a devices that can run a game near perfect to the original too with ease amd accessibility

Regardless no right or wrong way to enjoy this hobby 😎

Mod complete in new CPS2 board I got. Which is in mint condition. Also, cleaned everything.

I unpinned the Noctua and unpinned the default fan and re-used the housing works perfectly. ❤️

I own a MiSTer as well. It's really nice when hooked up to a CRT. FPGA's are so so much better than Emulation.

I highly recommend it even if you want to play Arcade, N64, PSX, Saturn, etc. :)
