What's new
Jesus, how long did it take? lol.

Also if people are looking for solutions without power and amps, I could sneeze those out quickly.

Hi!:)

I made Conan the Barbarian😑🤛, I made a death harness , for Sega Model 1 Virtua Fighter, AWG 24 & AWG 18 cable, my fingers remember it 🖖😝

Man I need one of these. Where do I pay? 😆

I'm mainly concerned about what the electrical tape is hiding, going from one wire gauge to another. I have an official Sega cable which connects to a power distribution board which does the same thing, but I lose almost 2V when trying to use it.

Hi! :)

AWG 24 to AWG 18.

I left 2 AWG 24 cables to 1 AWG 18 for balanced

Hi! :)

sorry for the language mistakes in english ;(

To reduce the number of +5v, +12v & GND cables to the AMP connectors because not all of them could fit into the holes, I put a pair of AWG24s to a single AWG18 cable.

I welded them together and put a thermo sheath to make it look nice

And this is to avoid overheating, because someone who knows the Sega Model 1 well, but says not to go through the Jamma connector because the copper tracks are not thick enough, there is a risk of burning and evaporating at cause of amperage X(

i would take one pretty please with a cherry on top !
And there we have it! The first adapter is assembled and mailed out. Nearly 4 years in the making and @Mrhide finally got one! And... I forgot to take photos because I was working so hard on it!

So, the rest of these. I've decided on a fair pricepoint, $60. I want them gone to fund a new project based on all my Model2 research. A cost effective way to turn it into both Supergun and JAMMA. I'll dedicate a thread to it later but I've grown tired of my over-complicated setup and would like to sell things based on my ownership of Model2 over the last few years.

MrPatientDude is looking forward to picking it up this weekend / next week in San Francisco but a review will have to wait for his return home, the week of 18th!

I'm going to be perfectly honest here: It's a clone of a board made probably in the 90's with an amplifier that dates back even further. It's a very simple circuit not designed to cut out that much noise. The design of it's "move the resistor to get stereo or mono" didn't even work. I'm quite shocked they event went through the trouble to add gun board support on this thing. So I am not expecting a rave review on the audio, and it was my first time wiring one of these bad boys (ow my hands) and I think I will refine my technique a little more.

For what it is, it reroutes the signals as best it can. The audio amp could have been better using modern tech, but it is what it was supposed to be: a clone. I learned a lot making these, and I hope to make better things going forward, but I invested too much not to sell these things off. My next implementation I hope to do a lot of electrical noise suppression for the audio and an optimized layout with a modern amplifier chip which can handle both stereo and mono.

Package picked up!

Yes there are two adapters… more when I get back home!

Glad they arrived safe! After you post a review, I will open up preorders for the four three adapters left in a mass DM to all those who expressed interest. They can decide based on what I've presented here and your review to see if the adapter is right for them or not.

I do have another adapter which I made quite a while ago now based on already available parts online. I'll take offers.

all right guys. Here's the review of the adapter.

1- He worked hard on it ;) and I want to know more about the unpopulated stuff!

2- The wires are great: They have a nice flexibility and are not too stiff. You can't mess the connections up : the connectors only fit on one place on the filter board (a model 2A / Virtual Fighter 2). The 2 that can be switched are both 5 volts! they are marked but it really doesn't matter.

3- You also can't mess this up on the adapter itself

That type of connectors is great as they are easy to remove. I was afraid at first but after unplugging them, I love them.
Kudos for putting test/service buttons directly there.

"warning": perhaps for some people the pot might be an issue if you have a voltage display glued on your jamma connector that might block the way?

Functionality wise, it works great, as advertised. all the controls are working.

Sound:
When I first plugged it it, I noticed a "hum".... and touching the pot allow me to hear the radio on the speakers :) At first I thought there was an issue since I got no sound but it turns out it's a Virtua fighter 2 issue :( The sound works perfectly fine on Sega Rally and I can't really hear the hum with the music of the game. Must investigate why I get no sound in VF2 but it is in no way the adapter. (google tells me it appears to be a frequent issue with VF2)
I also thought "why is there no heatsink on the amp? won't it be burning hot?" but after 5 minutes of full power music, the amp is barely warm.

...and now a big warning, which is probably not going to be a surprise to anyone who played with a model 1,2 or 3 before:

I had to try 3 cabs before finding one (the egret 29) which allowed the board to boot... at 4.8 Volt.
- On the (generic) first cab, I brought the power supply up to 5.9v and could only get 4.7Volt at the filter board (blank screen, no boot)
- On the (blast city) second cab, I brought the power supply all the way up to 5.7v and could only get 4.65Volt at the filter board (blank screen, no boot)

These boards are POWER HUNGRY and getting this adapter doesn't guaranty that the board will have enough power to work in your cab! This is NOT the adapter's fault, just a fact of these monster boards and the particular power supply that you are using.

Again, big thanks to @biggestsonicfan for choosing me as the first patient customer to have it!

edit: success!
