What's new
The printout in GamingDoyle's pic looks like a JAMMA edge printout. I used the same image MrHide linked to make my VF1 harness.

What game are you trying to run?

I'm not trying to run any game, per-say, but rather I have a VF1 cab that has a (poorly) JAMMA-ized harness. I picked up an original VF1 harness to put into it, and have an unobtainium part I would like to make an adapter with. The BS25P-SHF-1AA is a 25-pin JST-NH header with a side entry instead of a top entry. I would like to create a small fingerboard that allows me to use the JST-NH header and soldered wires to an JST-NH connector to create a Model1 harness to Model2 harness. This is what I have so far in KiCad but I want to label everything on it for ease of use, even though it's very specialized and very limited hardware, lol:

Attached @biggestsonicfan , seems the forum won't let me upload excel so I zipped it
Oh that's very slick, thank you!

Hi! :)

Could someone give me the exact correspondence of the CN2 pin of the soundboard to the connector of the Filterboard to make the cable :saint:

THANKS

I actually power the Model 1 I/O on an New Astro City PSU via a JAMMA finger board, and power the game board, sound board, stereo amp using a Happ.

If you don't have the original wire loom that goes from the filter board to the sound board check out this THREAD.

Sorry to exhume an old post, but I found this while trying to wrap my head around getting a VF1 board up and running. I've solved most of the mysteries, but am still shaky on power (the last thing I want to take any chances on).

I know Astro City 2 has a 400-5220 PSU that works specifically for VF1/Model 1.

I hardly ever see Astro City 2 parts come up though. New Astro City and Blast City seem to be in much higher supply, and I've seen VF1 running on both of these.

I can get my hands on a New Astro City PSU (400-5261) with a JAMMA fingerboard/harness, as well as a VF1 JAMMA harness.

It sounds like, barring an Astro City 2 or original VF1 cabinet power board, a Happ PSU is necessary on top of that, though? Could you walk me through what I'd need for the power setup/wiring in detail to rig a setup like yours?

I actually moved on to an NVS-4000 PSU. This is a pretty common pinout among Sega PSUs:

The harness I use has 2 wires coming from each +5V spot for a total of 12 and 2 wires for each GND spot for a total of 10. Just make sure not to use that +12V for anything you're not supposed to.

When I was using a HAPP I had all the required +5V and GND linked up to a spade connector.

I was thinking that can’t be right, there’s always at least one 5220 on buyee. But I checked, nope, maybe they are drying up. I used to use a PC PSU to be the supplemental 5v / 12v, that worked fine even though no adj isn’t ideal. (I have an AC2 now with a 5220) As long as it has suitable amperage it really doesn’t matter what you use though. 5220 specs:
  • SJ25-0111-01: +5V 7A, +12V 1.5A, -5V 0.1A
  • PJ25-0013-01: +5V 12A (15A peak)
I’m surprised you’ve seen a model 1 in a Blast or NAC it would be hard to fit. Guess you could de-cage it and kind of work it out. Or in a NAC maybe it could fit vertically or leaned at an angle?

Most the VF1 board sets I see, the cage is long gone and they go for cheap and untested. I mounted all my boards to both sides of the plywood, wires going everywhere, but it fits in an NAC.

Thanks so much for the fast response Bob, I actually was not aware of the NVS-4000 line at all, those seem versatile, and seem to have a lot of pre-made looms out there which is a plus. These also seem to be a bit sparse at the moment, but it gives me more options to look for.

Thank you for those specs, Doyle - I'll keep looking and see what i can find! Also good to know that 400-5220's aren't usually in short supply - I'm working from a small sample size, so may just need to be patient.

Bob gave a great answer but, seeing it in a Blast City here - very possible it's sitting outside the cab for this shot, though:

In an Astro City (1) here. According to Google Translate, this person built a custom rack to fit it into the cab. I misremembered it being in a New Astro City, but if I'm not mistaken they're the same dimensions.

Those are Model 2 and Model 3 cages. Those easily fit into a Blast/NAC. The Model1 cage is 50% longer and only fits in Wood cabs or the Astro 2's backpack.

In the Chinese blog? It's way down toward the bottom, but he does remove the VF1 guts from the Model 1 cage and refit a custom cage to fit it into the Astro City (1). For whatever reason he talks about VF2 - VF5 first before getting into VF1. He apparently was inspired by some Japanese figurines to find a way to stuff VF1 into an Astro City.

I know this isn't a typical setup though - really only referenced it in regards to my search for info on powering VF1, which lead me down the City cab rabbit hole.
