First of all I would have prefered to keep CRT, if that was possible at all.
I even got huge 4:3 SONY CRT projection TV as a donor, but realized it also is not bright, as it should be, anymore.
I guess with last CRT rear projectors made decades ago it is not that easy to run across one with healthy tubes.

So let it be DLP!

Chopped the DLP unit from Toshiba 65HM167 to fit the original 4:3 monitor assembly.
Had to throw away original mirror and install ordinary 30x24 inch bathroom mirror from HomeDepot.
As new lens has different ratio from what the CRT projector had - the original mirror won't fit, if placed at the correct angle.
Mirror frame also adjusted for the new size.

Here how it looks now.

DLP chip would be replaced to get rid of the black dots.

That's so sick! An upgrade done correctly. I hope any operators restoring these cabinets from the dead read this thread and take note, because squished 16:9 ratio is a no-no!! I love my Harley-Davidson stack, which was from a cabinet I played on as a kid that got damaged. I usually turn to that game after testing my drifting skills on a few laps on Scud Race or Daytona 2 via my driving PCB rig. Model 3 really has a versatile collection of driving games and you can easily swap the board of another game into the cage without disconnecting too much.

That looks great. I love to see a projector cab saved.

I’ve seen a few PJ cabs outside of arcades rotting in the rain or thrown away because they take up too much space.

Done final assembly today and here are a few of the inside pics taken, while it was still open.
Retained all the original front connections, so it is plug and play.
DLP chip swapped for a good one, so no more black dots too.
Game is as good as new now.

The only thing left to figure out is the seat "shake" speaker.
It is there, it is connected, but not shaking. Probably amp circuit needs to be checked.
Or it is just switched off somewhere :)
