Hi - I'm trying to upgrade my Naomi Universal cab fro ma Naomi 1 to a Naomi 2. I got a Naomi 2 Mother board and swapped it into the cabinet. It powers on and I can hear the fan turn on, but no picture or sound. Is there something I'm missing - i just unplugged everything from the Naomi 1, pulled it out and put the 2 in and plugged everything back in? I've tried both real carts and a NetDimm, but neither works.

I'm also trying to put the Naomi 1 into a JAMMA Candy 26 cabinet using a Capcom IO. I can get it to run a Capcom VS SNK cart, but the NetDimm that was working on it in the Naomi Universal Cab no longer works. I just get a black screen. My goal is to get both running with a wipi netbooter, so any help would be much appreciated.

Naomi 2 black screen could be many thing from bad bios, no fan spin, or a fault on the board.

Naomi 1 black screen with netdimm look like a power issue. Are you powering it with the Capcom io? If so they do not provide enough 3.3V for the netdimm.

NAOMI 1 Yes - I’m just using the power via the Capcom IO. How do I get the Netdimm the 3.3v? Is it possible?

NAOMI 2 Is it possible to pinpoint what Is wrong?

is your screen 15 or 31 hz?
how are both of your naomi set?

Was that naomi 2 ever working or is this the first time you try it?

I have the dip switches set correctly for each machine.

This is the first time I’ve tried the Naomi 2. Just got it in the mail. The GPU was busted off it in transit and the seller sent me a new mother board that I installed. Want to make sure everything is working properly in order to finalize the sale.

damn ... they can be picky so make super sure that the cart or netdimm is making proper contact. If you changed the board, you know how to remove the top plastic shell so remove that and try to connect the cart directly (if you have not already tried that...)

For the N1 you need to get a sun psu or modified a computer atx power supply with the right connector or use an adapter I forgot who make them. You still need the Capcom io for control.

For then you can try some of these ideas here. Seeing as it is supposed to be working I don't know how much you want to rework. I would make sure you have everything plug in and voltage are good. Naomi are very finicky about power

Thanks for the advice, taking the top off of the Naomi2 worked! But now I'm getting a Caution 51 error on bootup. It says to Game Assignments are incorrect and to change them in Test mode. When I press the Test Button under th Control Panel, nothing happens.

Try the switch by dipswitch on the back on the naomi. Sw1 get you into test and act as your enter/confirm. Sw2 is how you navigate

that wroked - the Naomi 2 is alive! thanks for the help. now i just need to figure out why the test button under the CP isn't working and maybe get a new PSU for my Candy 26 if i want to run netdimm on the N1. Thanks for all the help!

i vaguely remember seeing someone, somewhere using a dreamcast as a PSU for a supergun Naomi setup. any idea if that's a possibility for my setup?

hmm - celebrated too early. netdimm isn't working on the N2 in Naomi Universal cab, still a black screen.

I know the netdimm works in this cab with the N1. any ideas what to troubleshoot?

You might have a power issue as the N2 is a beefier machine. That or the cart connector not making good contact.

I don't know if I missed a post, or if someone suggested this allready, but you should see a picture and error, with no game / net-dimm in it, and go into the diagnostic window, and to system tests to verify it's fully working. Or that's what I do, before I go and test any cartridges on it.

Also when I had issues with a Naomi2 board without video, I cut off the super cap, and re-tested it worked, I did a diagnostic, and then pulled the arms that I cut off, and put a new super cap on.

if i don't have a game cart in, i just get a black screen. if i plug one in, it boots up. is that not normal?

what is the super cap?
