Hey there all, after spending the whole day trying to sort this, I figure I bring my need to the experts.

Ok, so I recently had an MS9 recapped by the good folks at Sharper Image. The videos sent back to me looked great. So I installed the chasis, everything ok. Sooo after running it for a bit I noticed the picture just didnt pop like the monitor on the Astro City that I currently have. I mean night and day difference to me anyways. Ive followed the Otaku wiki and looked through a bunch of stuff here. The only thing I can think is the monitor might need to be rejuvenated but at that point Id rather sell the whole thing and start with a new set-up. I mean to others it may look fine and they can easily adjust the monitor. But to me, nope, very OCD, lol.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ken N.

have you done any adjustments try adjusting the color in the service menu heres a guide adjustment link

looks like one of the guns is weak. you probably need to replace the tube. Starting over? you'll be in for a rude awakening when you try to sell that one

Thanks.

I may have over-reacted. I’m in this far. I’ll go through it all the way.

I did manage to get the colors more vibrant.

For B+ you'll want 76V DC on the 15khz line.
116V on the 24khz.

For these nanao ms9's you can actually push up the B+ a little bit to get more brightness since the chassis' run pretty cool.
5 extra volts on either line won't hurt ya and it'll give you a nice boost of bright. This will effect the width range a bit, but you can adjust that out with the adjustment pots.

For calibration, I use Mike Moffitt's method: https://mikejmoffitt.com/pages/ms9-hax/#calibration

There's a lot of great info on his page for basic maintenance and servicing. Also some improvement mods if you so dare. I've done the G1 sharpness mod and it works beautifully. I'm not going to touch the 31khz mod, though.

Adjusted the B+ to 75 (thats what Ive seen posted and digging on youtube. Per OPT2not, I may increase it a bit. I did incread the ABL as well. The image is getting there. As I stated before, over-reacted.

Thank you everyone. Ill keep you posted.

Bring it up to 76V. That’s the factory setting.

Also, I wouldn't take much stock in the youtubers. Lots of those guys regurgitate bad info they've found from who knows what sources. There are plenty of repair sites and forums of people who know what they're talking about that you can trust more than someone fishing for likes/subs.

I've given you a link from Mike Moffett. He's well known in the arcade community for his knowledge and devices he's designed for us.
Also, Dragonminded has a site here: https://gamerepair.info/hardware/35_nanao_ms9_29
She's also well known in the community (though she used to be here on this forum but was chased off by some toxic douches).

You probably don't know me, but if you take my word for it, these 2 sites are my bibles for maintaining and repairing MS9 monitors. I refer to them constantly when I work on these monitors.

I love my Bible. I’ll definitely be reading and learning all I can on the recommended sites.

Thank You.

Set the b+ on the 15 / 24 kHz. I’m a tad bit under 79 for 15khz( kept it higher per Opt2nots suggestion). Plus the site info given stated it was a-ok to go as much 5 over. I’m at 116.2 kHz for 24. The image is much improved and looks waaay cleaner and sharper. Thank you all. I will be fiddling with the color adjustment and call it a day.
