Hello guys,
Browsing social media I came across a guy who says he has an m1 hack of the game that makes the audio work correctly on a card with a PCM chip (e.g. ProgBK1)
This thing really stinks to me and the guy was kind enough to share the files.
Personally I have tested the rom and I find that something is wrong.

Do you want to test too?
Can i share m rom and v rom here ?

File deleted, because I am not the author and you have to ask the person who made it directly.

What an interesting hack. In today's world of NG flash carts and the UNIBIOS, it just seems pointless!

I am sorry I cannot help here, but I wanted you to post more information so that other people can help out. Thank you for posting, hopefully one of our technically capable people can chime in.

For yourself, what is the benefit of this hack instead of just using a flash cart?

I suppose the Magician Lord makes some sense. Even with a Unibios switching between Arcade and Console mode won't get you the two versions because there are actual rom differences.

For NAM, I'm not sure what the hack could be for unless it's a way around the fact that there is no continuing or second player joining once the final boss starts?

Yes, this is interesting indeed. I have to check my Vortex cart now to see which version of MG and NAM is on it.

But on a flash cart, you can load both versions of each one and choose between AES/MVS as wanted.

My only interest at the moment is to unmask something that isn't true.
It seems to me that this seller is making poorly done conversions and unsuspecting people are buying them even though they don't know.
if this is true I am very annoyed by people who profit in this way.
but I want to think that currently I'm the one thinking wrong and that this is really a working hack.
but at the moment this hack seems not working for me.

I understand. I am sorry I cannot help, but hopefully someone may. I hate to send anyone over to the Neogeo forums, but maybe that would be a better place for some information ask well.

I found the Facebook posts for these.

For the Magician Lord it looks like he has made and sold several of them. If they weren't working, I would expect to see a complaint. But I'm not sure what you mean by the rom isn't working. There are two different Magician Lord romsets, this just puts them on the same cart with a switch for the necessary rom.

The NAM post was a different user from what I can tell and doesn't have any info beyond what you screenshotted.

Both posts are a couple years old at this point. I guess if you're looking at whether or not you should be upset about someone making and selling hacks/boots/conversions, the ship has long sailed on that. Best to just ignore it, don't buy, and move on with life.

I fully agree, but out of personal interest I wanted to understand.
If you try to convert a card that doesn't have the PCM chip to one that does, the audio of some tracks won't play.
because before the PCM audio A and B were separated and with the PCM chip the audio is merged and demultiplexed.

ok guys I have never been so happy to be wrong, I met the author of these files and he is a real wizard.
(I tend to be wary of things that are too good to be true) I spoke to the author and he shared the nam1975 files with me, and I have personally tested them on real hardware.
He really patched M1 to work in this way:

V11, 000000 - 03FFFF
V21, 040000 - 07FFFF
V22, 080000 - 0BFFFF
V23, 0C0000 - 0FFFFF

Does that just allow the rom to work on the more common prog/cha boards or does it have any gameplay effect?
