What's new
Please post here which DVD drives, besides the official one, are compatible with Lindbergh and allow to succesfully install games from a DVD.

I use this one and works like a charm: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=liteon+ebau108-01&_sacat=0

had a broken videocard in a spare lindbergh so after receiving a spare, it's now working and I can confirm ( as if it was needed from that author! ) that the ebau108 is indeed working:

then I get a i/o not found ! :( Swapped it from a working setup, goes all the way, game is working.

I have a i/o in my ali express cart and I see from the picture it doesn't have the "super cap" on ...so before pressing checkout, I go and remove the cap from my "broken i/o", stick it back and ... it's working ! take it for what it's worth! ( well 65$ actually!)

I use an LG GP65NB60, which in my experience works for Lindbergh game installations from DVD.
I found it also works for RingEdge 1 game installations from DVD, although that requires a separate adapter to connect it.

I use an LG GP60NB50 from circa 2017. Works great.

Is their any specific requirements when using the external DVD drive apart from plugging it in? USB port to use, buttons to be pressed, jumpers required?

My unit had that small USB block removed already so i'm plugged straight into the regular USB ports with a LG GP60NB50 and the drive isn't recognised at all in the bios. I do get a beep acknowledgment from the PCB when I plug/unplug it though. If I let the Lindbergh POST it just boots off the compact flash and reports error 26 storage drive not found (which i'd expect as the drive is blank and i'm trying to do a fresh install).

Try to do an install with an original DVD and original Keychip and see how it goes. Maybe @doozer has more ideas about it.

Using original keychip, the DVD is a burnt disc from an .img (ABC) although i'm starting to suspect this may be the problem. Wasn't sure what the normal behaviour of lindbergh DVDs are when put into a windows machine and didn't realise I had a genuine Virtua Tennis 3 disc. ABC shows as empty 4.7gb free (even though the disc has clearly been written to) whereas the VT3 shows as full 0 byte free.
Think I definitely cooked something here, I cant actually open the .img either says it is corrupt, again not sure if that is normal behaviour for a lindbergh disc.

You mean the usb to mini usb adapters?
They are not needed. Plug directly in usb ports.
Yeah all good it was missing to start with.

Yeah I used imgburn 2.5.8.0, ill try burning it again later when I finish work.

FYI: most Lindbergh disks will appear to be empty when viewed under Windows. The Lindbergh installer knows how to parse the disk and get to the actual game data.

So tried again and I can't get it to boot off this LG GP60NB50 it just won't pick it up, not sure if this is a firmware issue as mine was manufactured in Feb this year and the firmware version is different to what's on the website (dated 2022).
I can confirm the disc is good as it will boot off the disc if I use my old 5.25" drive over the internal SATA port and I have installed to the SSD using an IDE SATA adaptor or at least I think I have. I was under the impression when booting off the disc this was when I had the option to change the region but it seems to just do it's thing with no input and the game boots again in JP region.

Cheers Nem, I did see that and was wondering if it would even boot with a multi key while using a legit install, ordered some PICs so i'll give it a go.

LG Slimline SP80NB80 from Best Buys. It uses single USB cable
LG Slimline GP30NB30 also from Best Buys. Uses dual end USB. The two USB I am guessing is for added power.

I have not seen problems with drives. I have seen problems with the USB cables used only.

You can change the region of the motherboard in dev mode. According to the below post you just need to swap to a multi key pic:

Not sure that's right, but you can definitely do it with the multi CF and key.
Yeah this worked, booted with a multi key pic in place of the ABC key, obviously the legit game didn't boot but once I got into the lindbergh generic test menu I was able to change it and reboot with the ABC key in.

Yeah it's weird the GP60NB50 has previously been confirmed as working and the cable seems fine I mean its the stock one and I burnt the disc with it. I did try another drive which used two cables but no joy there. I will look into it more later and test these drives on another lindbergh to see what the go it but I achieved what I wanted to for now anyway (via using a disc drive via SATA port).
