Greetings gamers, hobbyist, crafters and purveyors of exquisite taste. I am 41 y/o father of two that finally managed to score a modestly priced original vewlix cabinet. I’ve spent the better part of two years building and modifying wood based wallcades that are hyperfunctional, budget friendly and offer the ergonomics of a sit down cabinet. This follows owning a recroommasters sit down cabinet that just never really grabbed my attention. In addition I’ve found a love for modernizing older retail fight sticks and building wood based sticks. In that time I found that adapting to leverless controls really improved my gameplay. With that said, I still appreciate and enjoy using levers. My kids don’t get it with arcade games yet but they will some day. If not, they can play zombie survivors!

So I gotta just tell you. I’m so excited about this pickup. Someone local was selling a fairly worn, fully functional, not quite stock vewlix C cab. I almost bought it sight unseen as I didn’t want it to get away from me. It was listed for $950 and I did absolutely no haggling. I brought it home yesterday and now I need to figure out how to get it into my basement before I begin its long rehab. I have so many ideas I can’t wait to implement. I am hopeful that I can join this community and contribute as well as learn how to get the most out of this coveted piece of gaming hardware.

Without any further ado I will post the photo of this beauty. I’m really looking forward to spending a lot of time on this forum and well as the shop.

Would love to see photos of the wallcades.
Lovely Vewlix.

Welcome!

Welcome fellow cheesehead! Lots of great folks here willing to help out-

Thanks for the well wishes. I've been so swamped at work I've barely had a chance to take a look at this thing since I got it. I will put up more pictures and share some of the wallcade stuff. They're under construction at the moment but you'll see where I'm going.

Welcome fellow Wisconsinite! Never thought I see a Vewlix here in the states. It's good to know I'm not the only person who collects these types of things :)

As promised…. My traveling Shmupfighter! Excuse the wires. I’m still figuring out where to put my usb materials. Made from red oak and mdf.

Basically I mounted a tabletop monitor mount with height tilt and pivot adjustment inside of a fightstick case arranged with the long side of the box in the same plane as user. So essentially a personal sit down arcade held on the wall by L brackets and a French cleat. When you want it to travel, simply unscrew the L bracket from the case and you’re off! With the power inverter and everything tucked inside the case, bring your steam deck with you and you’ll play all night with the usb c alt display. Recessed speakers sound pretty good. I stuffed them with speaker fill. You can even hook up a powered subwoofer with the 3.5mm plug on the side. I think it’s pretty cool!

I have the full cabinet (exlcluding tie downs) now disassembled. I gave a quick wipe down but more work is necessary. Couple of questions- has anyone tried painting these pull back handles? My understanding of ABS is that it needs to be roughed up or pretreated before painting. Any shortcuts would be appreciated. Also, what do you use to clean the stainless steel runners at the bottom? And finally, are there established replacement leveling feet? These, and the casters, are probably the part of the cabinet in the worst condition.
