That's a PS3-V1 pcb (weird, as Gunbird 2 used to be in PS5 pcb)

Is PS3-V1 board also elegible for Multi?
"PS5 has a different memory map than PS3-V1. Otherwise identical." According to mamedev. So its a conversion...and in poor condition.

Maybe they are identical in terms of game capabilities, but they are physically different.

  • PS3-V1 (from Strikers 1945 II):

  • PS5 (from Strikers 1999):

Also, PS5 variant has an enhanced audio circuit. It's able to use YAC513 or YAC516 (more complex) DACs

And sorry to the OP, for hijacking the thread :S

Gunbird 2 pcb looks legit to me, dont think its a convertion.

Seconded. Not the first time I have seen Gunbird 2 on this PCB type. My guess is that Psikyo used whatever PCB stock they had available.

Program ROMs on this one will match the PS5 version. The different memory map is handled elsewhere on the PCB.

Whoever buys that GunBird Please dump the ROMs. Those look like original Psikyo ROMs which means that the memory map refactoring may be in Code as opposed to PCB logic.

it's also possible that the epoxy bubbles on the top and bottom of the PCB are where the logic was remapped (these are the exact areas you need to modify to perform a remap), and if that's the case then the multi may not work on this board as it will undoubtedly need to tap into the pads in the memory map areas in order to switch between PS3 and PS5 memory maps.

I've checked the EPROMs on a Gunbird 2 running on PS3-v1 and they matched MAME.

You might be right about those epoxy bubbles.

Yeah I've seen Gunbird 2 running on PS3-V1 as well (I actually own one), but never with original Psikyo Mask ROMs and original Program ROM stickers.

It stands to reason if it was a genuine Psikyo conversion they'd have the source code to recompile with the alternative map.

On the other hand it's hard to imagine a bootlegger using genuine EPROMs and such a clean memory map fix.

Hard to know for sure, but signs point to legit.

I sent a PM on Gunbird 2 even before seeing this.

I want to play this game. Not confident in my ability to dump the ROMs, but would GLADLY send it to someone who can (and I have a buddy locally who may well be able to help as well.)

Guardians, USD145.00
Strikers 1945 I USD130.00
