What's new

Bambu Lab boiz

Yeah I mean as an update to this thread since I've used the P1S for a few months now.

It is still very good.

Just got my first 3D printer this week, A1 mini with AMS, Very impressed with the speed and quality of the prints, not yet tried the AMS, just been having fun printing the sample things

AMS owns just cause it is awesome to have some filament colors ready and not have to change anything to pick one.

Multi-color printing is kindof awkward and takes a long time, but just being able to pick from one of black/white/red/blue without loading a filament manually is a gamechanger

So true! I almost never use the AMS for multi color prints but having 4 rolls loaded at any point in time is great.

Have to try that new PETG-HF filament, sounds great from what I saw.

I have done a number of multi color prints - but for me - since my X1c is in the garage, the ability to have the 4 spools there and ready, in a humidity controlled environment is the big winner for me. Love it.

I sure wish there was an easy way to use the AMS on the A1, or seal up the AMS Lite, 'cause having four rolls exposed to the elements makes me itch.

Beware the upcoming firmware lockdown for Bambu printers. It's been causing a stink among the 3d printing community for a little while. I haven't dug too deep, but I did read/listen to some stuff on CanuckCreator/Nero3D, Louis Rossman, and Hackaday, and what little I did glean from those was not good. I'll probably avoid firmware updates or online access until we can figure out exactly what happens in future, or until someone figures out a jailbreak.

It's unfortunate since the P1S and post-recall A1 have been easy recommends (I even have a Micro Center nearby), but probably not anymore. Hopefully the situation is cleared up soon.

Someone mentioned this to me two minutes ago, and I just sent Bambu a letter swearing to buy another brand if they force this on me.

It was only two days ago that I had a slicer problem, a print that BStudio wouldn't print properly but Orca would.

The upshot is: Bambu Studio only, unless you want to use an intermediate app between your slicer and your printer. Slice in Orca, import into Bambu Connect, then print.

Total bullshit. =/

Now begins the cat and mouse of regular new updates followed by regular jailbreaks.
100% agree, and this absolutely trashes the X1C value proposition for me.

Used to be “it just works”
Now it’s “it just works with our filament, and always on internet, and selling your models to Chinese factories, and monthly subscription for the heated seats (I made that last one up).
Or we’re chasing the dragon of jailbreaks. Such a frustrating choice, great device, questionable vendor…

The situation with Bambu is unfortunate, and I'm glad they're getting blowback. I find people like Louis Rossman unwatchable, and even though I read Hackaday daily I find their commentators often difficult to deal with.

Alright.

Anyway, I hope they reconsider locking out 3rd party slicers. Because requiring a clumsy extra app step is garbage.

I'm no fan of Louis either. He just happened to be early on Youtube to talk about this issue, which caught my attention much more than his name did. I'm sure several people in the 3D printing TY space will have talked about it since (Nero3D/CanuckCreator was also early which is why I mentioned him).

For Hackaday I deliberately avoid the comment section if I can help it. I feel like there are a lot of super unhinged people there. I went back and glanced at it for the article this time before nope-ing out real quick after seeing a giant thread with several people screaming at each other about socialism.
