What's new

<< Lovely commitment to the restoration @erzane. I’m impressed with some of the info you have on obscure parts. Where do you get the info like who made the original parts? >>

For some parts, I took the references from the Sega japanese manual and sometimes on the part itself (for example the wheels). For some others, I asked the company since I've find out that they were providing several parts to Sega. For example, the leg adjusters was provided by the same company manufacturing the hinges. Then once I've got the parts I could take a closer look and compare and it appears I was right. Btw, I did a few researches which took time and I'm planning to reference and share all these infos later.

Regarding the AC Unit, there was a few parts which appeared to be problematic : a special rotating cord clamp ; a 20A 2P terminal (117-5194-02) ; an outlet AC faston 187 type plug (601-5513) ; and a CA & Plug Assy 15A (w-Lug) (600-6037) cable, but after months of researches I finally succeed to get them (except the cable).

> Cord clamp : at the origine - refering to the manual - they are provided by Takeuchi but it depends on the year of production. So, after a few peeps on the web I discovered that Sega also used Nix clamps for their Astro. Nix is also the provider of Sanwa btw, you can find some Nix clamps on their Inox CPs (has to be confirmed) and they also appears on their catalog. So, I opted for Nix because it's difficult to get some Takeuchi clamps, especially for the ones based on the AC Unit.

The clamp based on the AC Unit is not adhesive but a rotative clamp mounted with a pin that you have to insert into a hole based on the plate. And you cannot find this type of clamp by Sanwa, neither Monotaro or any shop we are used to (the purpose of that clamp is to hold the main AC cable). Btw, the clamps sold by Sanwa are also available by Monotaro. Sanwa is selling the light grey color but you can find them in dark grey too by Monotaro. The AC Unit clamp is light grey and do not exists in dark grey. Usually the Astros are equiped by some dark grey clamps but in my case all my clamps are light grey. That way, they all match with the AC Unit clamp and also with the standard clamp based on the CP.

So, Nix Japan didn't want to sell their clamps overseas so I had to contact Nix USA but since they only accept paiements from US customers I had to find some help. We fortunately ordered the clamps with kikaso (many thanks to you buddy !). Nix USA took order from Japanand repatriated the goods. The price of a bag of 100 pces wasen't expensive at the origin but FedEx took some huge custom fees and the price has become more than $450 if I remember well. But the most important was done and the clamp issue was resolved.

> Terminal 20A 2P (117-5194-02) : the company manufacturing these terminals is called Kokusai. Unfortunately, it's impossible to get that part from Kokusai (actually I don't remember if I succeed to talk with them or if they said the serie is discontinued) but I hopefully found another alternative through another company manufacturing the same terminal and I succeed to get a brand new free sample. The terminal is ''exactly'' the same as the Kokusai so I suppose both company are linked.
I'm planing to buy more of these terminals since the MOQ is 100 pces but I'm just waiting to get some extra money for that purpose. Btw, the price of 100 pces is about $350 + shipping. If some of you also need a few of these terminals we could share the expenses, just let me know.

> Outlet AC faston 187 type plug (601-5513) : this one can be found by EDK Japan (former Echo Electronics) but you'll probably have to buy a MOQ of 100 pces too and the company accepts only bank transfer. I bought some similar models for my Pony at the time by EDK and it appears they also manufactures the model for the Astro / New Astro but I didn't go so far this time since I found two brand new, one on Yahoo and another coming from a friend in Japan. So I was lucky with that one.

>CA & Plug Assy 15A (w-Lug) (600-6037) : it's a Wakoplug cable which is simply impossible to get. And you'll probably not find any Wakoplug AC cables on retail stores. Only Sega can order these AC cables and God knows that Sega is not Taito... I tryed a lot of procedures but no results. I still have an idea but it will cost some money so I'll see this later. It's easy to get some AC cables from other companies but this Wako cable is quite unique by it's shape and thickness. So, a solution would be to cut and strip the cable. You will lose about 20 cm lenght but that's not really an issue. If you don't want to cut / strip, the white wire inside will stay kinda yellow. I didn't do anything on this cable yet but I'm planning to buy a Knipex Ergostrip tool in order to make it proper.

Regarding the other parts : there is a Panasonic rocker switch that you can easily find by Digikey ; a TDK noise filter which is not hard to find as brand new (I found mine on Yahoo), a 30mm cap which is globaly the same as those used on any CP ; an unknown bushing strain relief that you can replace by one manufactured by Sato Parts (I also got the one for my Pony from Sato Parts) ; and some Sanwa SR-110 housings.

Concerning the wires : you can buy all the original wires used by Sega by N-Takachi, a company providing services as custom harnesses for example. Anyway, the Sega New Astro City manual is referencing the size and the color for each cables.

Concerning the screws : they are several screws holding the parts on that plate so if you want to know which one I used I'll also share these infos later. You can find absolutely all the screws for that cab (size / plating) by Saima Corporation. Btw, the screws holding the plate exists in many shape, the good ones are some black temper proof M4 x 12 truss head screws.

Regarding the plate : I sanded it and re-painted it with varnish (both side).
