Hi all,
I've been troubleshooting a GD-Rom drive on my Naomi 2 board for the past couple days and i can't seem to get stuff working as it should,
i feel like i've tried everything but no matter what i do, i get an Error 21 [The game is not acceptable by main board], which according to the Service manual means the data is corrupt, i've seen it before when trying to load a Chihiro or Triforce game by accident.
I am trying to boot Guilty Gear XX ACCENT Core with it's corresponding security chip.
My Naomi 2 is working normally with all games when Netbooting, even with the very same game, and the same 512MB NetDimm.
However when booting from GD-Rom, i get the usual 4~5 times of Now Loading... to Memory Checking, takes a while, then after getting through the 5th check it reboots, and Error 21 appears.
What i've tried/confirmed, and some things of note..
The security chip is working and matching. i have ripped the GD-Rom successfully so this is also not likely the problem. Most testing was done in Japanese mode, but i have tried every region on the 2020 Multibios,. I have set the right jumpers on the Netdimm for GD-rom boot. Re-seated/cleaned everything multiple times. Voltages on the SUN PSU have been adjusted to exactly 5.0v and 3.3v (were sligthly high before). SCSI cable is original and seems to work fine. The title of the game i am loading shows up in the Naomi's test mode, the game's test mode is fully functional. I have tried swapping in a drive from a Model 2 Dreamcast which gave the exact same results, although both make healthy screeching GD noises. Swapping security chips or GD-rom's gives the coresponding error as it should. Netdimm's memory s good, can load 512mb games without any issue through Netboot. Lenses on both drives have been cleaned and AFAIK the pots have not been messed with. Tried 2 different bios, one regular Japanese only and the Multiboot i usually use. Battery in NetDimm is fully working, nothing changes when i disconnect it.
I have not tried another game, as i only have 1, although these games are quite expensive, so getting another when i think it's fair to say there's nothing wrong with the one i have when it rips right, looks very good and does seem to get decrypted by the code on the chip (test mode shows up) i think getting another game would just lead to the same error.
If there is anything i should try that i haven't yet? i'd really appreciate any tips! I am determined to get this game to boot, there are some games i'd like to collect, but in getting these i'd at least like to be able to confirm they work, which is the reason i'd like to get this thing up and running, even though most of the time i will just Netboot via Pi.
Thanks
