Odd Button Layout for Virtua Fighter?

Hi all,

I'm a big VF fan, and have a nice NetDimm setup with my Naomi 2.

Problem is, I have a 2P 6-Button each layout, which is great for Capcom and SNK fighters, but it's really weird for VF...
All versions of Virtua Fighter 4 on Naomi 2 have the attached image in the manual, and the arcades I've played all match the layout of the stick they released for playstation, also attached for ref.

However, when played with the 6 button setup, the bottom three are ignored, and the top three seem to be
[P][K][G]
[_][_][_]

I'd like to have them match the 'real' setup, like so:
[P][K][_]
[G][_][_]

Is there any way to achieve this? The game has a test menu, but that's just to check the inputs. Not change them.
if I simply swap the wires, I'll mess it all up for Street Fighter and the like...

Cheers

In the arcade they'd simply swap in a dedicated VF panel that had the buttons wired to the correct location.

If there are no options for remapping in the test menu then there's really not an "easy" way to accomplish this.

If it were me and I was planning on swapping in VF a lot I'd build a little adapter harness for the control panel connector that swaps buttons 3 and 4. then when you swap in the game you can also swap in your harness.

or if you're cheap you can just pull the signal wires off the buttons directly and swap them.

That's a nice idea - So just a little switch that swaps them over? I like it!

I guess the other option (as the Mrs isn't super-keen on playing VF with me!) is to have Player one set up for VF (with correct colour buttons!) and Player 2 set up with SNK / Capcom (again, with SNK button colours!)

Bear in mind you'll have a similar issue with SNK games. It'll use buttons 1 - 4, so the top three (1, 2, 3) and the bottom-left (4). You'd need some kind of switch that remaps them correctly to have 4, 1, 2, 3 with the correct SNK 4-in-a-row colour scheme.

Perhaps some little switch box to swap is in order then!

How about an adapter that plugs in to the 60pin CN3 connector on the IO and allows to remap the button layout? I want to make one for myself, if there is enough interest I can make more. It will be based mostly on my JAMMA button remapping/autofire solution [OUT OF STOCK] RECO PCB - a JAMMA button remapping & autofire device just smaller and with an SMD case microcontroller.

I would LOVE this to be a thing. Please make it so! You have 2 orders at least from me!

No lag, I’m guessing? You’d just select the layout from presets and it maps them?
