I'm trying to learn my way through refurbishing a NNC. I bought a Naomi 1 board and a 512mb NetDIMM for a netbooting setup. When I first connected, I was getting error 22, communication failure with daughter board. I've looked up a lot of suggestions on fixes, and so far nothing's worked. So far I've tried cleaning the contacts between the Naomi and Netdimm with Isopropyl Alchohol, verified seating of the boards, taken the Netdimm shell off and plugged it in by itself to make sure it was seated properly, swapped netdimms with another unit, reseated BIOS and PIC(security key?) chips, taken the Naomi board apart and cleaned off all the dust, and probably 1-2 other things I can't remember

Without the Netdimm, I get Error 1 (I believe?) about the game pack not being supported.

With the Netdimm, it either hangs and never boots, gives a normal error 22, actually locks up when displaying error 22, or starts displaying the error and then reboots/goes to a black screen.

Should I just replace my Naomi board at this point?

Also, does anyone have recommendations on which BIOS chip would be best to get for this setup? Or, the vendor that sells them, that is

I'm sure you've already done this but I'll mention it on the off chance that you haven't because you haven't listed it. Have you checked your voltages on the naomi with the netdimm connected?

Any normal carts to test?

Have you run the naomi self check in the test menu? (I forget the name for it)?

Naomi DIMM board errors are difficult to troubleshoot without having a working stack that you can swap components with.

I can hook you up with a multi BIOS if you need one. Send me a PM.

I have not tested voltages. I've got a multimeter, but I'm not entirely sure how to use it lol. Also, I'm not sure how/where to test the voltages while it's all connected

No, no normal carts unfortunately. I've considered just buying a cheap one for that purpose.

I have not run the self test yet. I'm running openjvs, and I'm not entirely sure that it's working right yet. I haven't been able to get into test/service menus. Can't tell if that's because of the error/system locking up, or my controls

That'd be great! PMing

It seems like a dead buffer chip, you probably need to replace the fairchild DIMM board buffer chip (IC12S) to fix this. This requires fine pitch soldering

I've tried 2 different NetDimms. Is this common enough that it could have happened twice?

If your voltages are off or there’s something electrically wrong with your Naomi, you coulda fried them both? Otherwise it could be something wrong with your Naomi Motherboard. Best way to test is to try both DIMMs with another Naomi motherboard.
