Howdy everyone,

I’ve been interested in picking up a Virtua Fighter 3tb boardset for quite some time, but what got me stumped is the whole JAMMA conversion process.

My main setup is a HAS 4.2 with a Meanwell RTA-125. I do have a monitor that can display the required med resolution.

I’d like to know what exactly are my options nowadays for converting the front of the board to be JAMMA compatible? Also with the power supply situation: Would my RT-125 suffice to power both the boardset and Supergun side or would I need something more powerful within the Meanwell lineup to take care of both or is it a better practice to have two PSUs to run everything?

I’m open to suggestions and advice on how to go about making this work with my setup. Would like someone to school me on this. Thank you :)

The RT-125 alone won't be enough as it is missing a 3.3V rail. You could get a separate 3.3V PSU and tie the grounds together, or upgrade to a Meanwell QP-150A.

For video there's a 5-pin header or you can use the DE-15 "VGA" connector. Note that neither connector outputs consumer video levels (0.7vpp). Out of interest, what monitor would you be connecting the board to?

The audio on the Model 3 is line level, but since you're using a supergun, that shouldn't be a problem. You need an adapter to go from the 4-pin header to RCA connectors.

Apart from that, it's just a case of connecting the controls to a jamma edge connector.

Pinouts are here:

All of the pin connectors are JST NH (https://www.jst-mfg.com/product/index.php?series=182).

If I were to upgrade to the QP-150 series, is there a setup similar to what jcmorrisii has to offer with their RT-x series of cases nowadays? Not gonna lie once I got one of those, I became a fan of the "set it and forget it" layout especially if I'm bringing my Supergun setup over to other places.

I have a Dell U2211H (hand me down from forever ago) and it worked fine with my NEC PC-9821. I remember those things needed a 24khz display and I figured it'd be applicable with the Model 3 series.

When I got home, I went on YJA briefly and saw this kind of conversion exists: https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/e1133028870

Would I have purchase something like that and then upgrade my PSU to the QP-150?
