Hey guys
How do I get my Initial D 3 twin linked together? They had to be seperated to get them shipped and I can seem to get them linked back up. Do I just use the red/black fiber optic cables or do I need an ethernet cable between the 2? What network settings need to be set? I know you guys can get me through this!!

Thanks,
Alex

You need the two fiber optic cables, one for sending, one for receiving. RX goes to TX, TX goes to RX.

As for the settings, it's super easy. Go to the test menu, then Game Assignments. Set the Seat Number of one of the cabinets to 1 and the other to 2. Doesn't matter which is which. Then exit out of the test menu with both machines. It will boot a network check. If everything checks out OK it will then start the game.

If you're having issues, I would first the check the condition of the fiber optic cables. Shine a flash light on one end and see if the other end lights up. If it doesn't light up or if the light is faint, the cable is possibly damaged.

Thanks for helping. I checked the fiber optic cables and red light was shinig through them. I will check to make sure they are hooked up properly. Do i need any network settings or do i turn network to none?

It currently boots up it shows checking network now, that disappeares and then it just stays as a black screen.

Black screen could point to a PSU issue. Have you measured voltages?

Have you gotten the game to start at all?

I'm assuming these cabs were linked before you shipped them and that they have the network boards installed (the thing that looks like a spacer between the NAOMI and the DIMM board)? As long as you have that and the fiber optic cables hooked up correctly (as nem said they should be crossed: TX to RX and RX to TX)

It couldn't hurt to post up pictures of what your network config screen looks like.

Yes they were connected cabs before they were shipped and i have the cables swapped as described. It shows “checking network now” for 7 seconds they the screens go blank. I must have a setting wrong or maybe a bad cable?

Does the network type matter? Ether, mobile

In the network settings You can set the network type to ether, mobile, ether+mobile default ether or ether+mobile default mobile.

I have tried setting it to other settings with the same result

Dimm board test comes back with a good test

that's the wrong network settings screen... that's for the DIMM board not the optical network.

the settings page you want will likely be in the GAME TEST menu not the SYSTEM test menu.

This game does not have s network catagory in the game test mode. Ithas game assignments and in that setting i have one machine set to seat number 1 and the other machine is set to seat number 2

I don't think that should happen. It should either show OK and then go to the game, or hang on the network check.

Try reseating the dimm board and communications board on the motherboard.

Also, I would still double check voltages. Just to rule that out.

I pulled the Dimm boards off and reseated them and it did not change anything.

I noticed that after “checking network now” disappears if i remove one of the fiber optic cables it will reappear and it will go away when i plug the cable in.

Another thing i noticed... if i make the slave cabinet as seat 1 and the master as seat 2 it never changes from “checking network now”.

Should i pick up a new set of fiber optic cables to give it a try?

Sure. Pick up a multimeter while you're out shopping ;)

I have one. I will post in a few what the readings are.

Should i just check the voltages coming out of the power supply. Making sure i have 5v, 12v and 3.3v?

I checked the volts coming out of both power supplies. 12v was right on, 3.3v was reading 3.4v and 5v was at 5.1v on both machines.

I also installed a new set of digital optical/audio cables but still have the same result.

Voltages should be checked at the motherboard end. Jam the meter leads in where the cables connect to the motherboard.

I have to run a Naomi 2 with a GDROM drive at 3.4V and 5.15V. It black screens when loading the game if voltages are any lower.

However, since the game boots normally, it's probably not your issue.

I guess you've let it sit for a while after the network check? Like at least a minute? I don't know how fast it should boot to the game when linked up.

I will check voltages at that location just to be sure. I also swapped in a different power supply from my MvsC2 without any change.

I tried letting it sit for close to 30 minutes after it goes to the black screen.

Another bit of info i found while changing settings. If i set the right machine to seat 1 and the left machine to seat 2 it shows “checking network now” but for a quick second it flashes “card r/w initialize...” on both screens and you can hear a car ignition + rev but then it goes back to the checking network screen and will continue to repeat this scenario.

I watched youtube videos and it looks like as soon as you hear the rev of the engine the game is to then start.

just for a test try switching the optical ports on one of your NAOMIs (but no the other one)
