Hi all! I recently grabbed a HOTD2 DX. The projection screen hardware is missing from the unit.

I’m wondering what the best conversion would be for it: I’m not finding many good LCD fits for the 40 inch width frame, plus it still has the actual screen attached, and I also have no idea how to install a projector into the case if I went the old rear projection tv route.

Also, I was unaware that HOTD2 ran on a prototype NAOMI without the pretty cream case… can you run NETDIMM on it for other games or would I need a complete board swap, and just keep the IO/guns/sensors?

There are some threads on KLOV and elsewhere with people finding new Projectors to install in these old rear-projection units. This is your best bet. You want what's called a "short throw" projector. These are designed to sit on the floor directly in front of the screen.

the hardware isn't a prototype, it's just the earliest revision, newer revision NAOMI Mobos work too.
As for the metal case, a number of dedicated early NAOMI cabs came with a metal case instead of the plastic one.

Yes and no.
HOTD2 uses a unique BIOS, this unique bios does not support Net Dimm hardware, Similarly trying to load HOTD2 with a net dim requires a newer bios, which HOTD2 does not support.

However, there is a Net Dimm hacked version of HOTD2 that does support Net Dimm

IMO your best option would be to ether source original hardware, or run a conversion cart with the proper BIOS.

just keep the IO/guns/sensors?
if you have all of that... keep it. this setup should be good to run Death Crimson OX, Confidential Mission, Lupin the Shooting, and Maze of the King (IMO the best Gun game on NAOMI next to HOTD2)

I never thought a short throw would work! This is brilliant!

I am also using a HotD2 DX with a default Naomi board incl. NetDimm to play all the Naomi lightgun shooters incl. HotD2. Sometimes even connect a Lindbergh Yellow to play HotD4 or Rambo.

As a display I still have the original RPTV with decent quality.
If you replace it and don't need the two display foils/filters anymore I might be interested in them.

I picked up one of these recently myself and saw it still had the projection hardware when disassembled for transport.
When I further took it apart for cleaning, I found that It had also been converted to LCD screen and has a Makvision MT42W-267C3.
I haven't been able to test the whole thing. Still getting the grease/dust out. The LCD works though so that's good.
I took out the projection hardware as it is pretty heavy. Its intact save for what I assume is the cut power wires but I have no idea of its functionality.

I like the idea of setting up netdimm to play the other shooters.

It also had this transformer in it which is heavy as all hell. Is this for the crt guns like the small transformers in a regular crt cabinet?
That dust/grease was in everything inside. Its nasty though I think the layer of grease provided some protection because fans are quiet and everything looks real nice after cleanup.

I actually ended up running with a ultra short throw projector. I still have to work out some details with making the fresnel lens work right, as the field of vision seems really off, and the picture is blurry as all get out from grime. Plus I need to check how to flip the screen still, which I’m assuming is just a digital option.

Can anyone help me with how to figure out the proper position for the Ultra short throw projector? Has anyone done this project before? I’m having issues with getting the height and distance right to frame the screen perfectly.

Also, I have one gun working perfectly, the other gun doesn’t seem to be calibrated properly and calibrating it in menu isn’t helping. How can I tell if all the IR sensors are working?

Start by swapping the gun connectors on the IO. That way you know it's something in the gun. Then swap sensors between guns and see what happens.
