I’m starting to put together the Naomi / NetBoot multigame setup and have a few, likely basic, questions:

- in some setups I’ve seen a GD Rom also in the mix, but I don’t understand why if everything is booting off the raspberry pi / netdimm.

- all of the setup vids seem to use the white Naomi 1, however I have the grey Naomi 2 and was wondering if there is anything unique to, or to watch out for when using the 2.

- anyone seen any really clean ways to store all the components outside of mounting it all on a piece of plywood? (Need something that the wife might accept sitting out in the open)

On a side note... the most difficult piece of all of this has definitely been the psu.

I recently set up my netboot system.

I found it really easy and followed the pinned guide in the Naomi forums, superbly written by @twistedsymphony. Main bits of info I followed were regarding the net dimm module and how to configure it.

Naomi 2 doesn't alter anything nor is a gdrom required.

The most important aspect is power. I run a Capcom IO, powered from a traditional arcade PSU but only use that to take care of video, audio and controls. It does not power the Naomi, for this I use a separate Pico ATX PSU.

I'm using the version of Piforce which networks to a mobile phone and use that as my games navigation / selection device.

Take care power, image the SD card properly and configure the dimm properly and it'll work fine.

As for consolidating the setup, that's still a work in progress for me. Using the Pico helps things a lot as it's so compact, and I power the RPI directly from the Naomi.

Thanks! I have a very similar setup, but hadn’t factored in the Pico PSU which seems like a great idea... waiting on one last piece so that I can try to get it all working - wish me luck :-)

Might investigate it if the Naomi ever leaves the Blast City ;) What model Pico did you use for yours?

Pico would definitely save a bunch of space when mounting it into a JAMMA only cab or when using it with a Supergun.

I can't remember which Pico I have. It's a 20 pin with red ATX connector. Nothing special. Pico's are great, plenty of oomph and tight on voltage tolerances.

It's important how you power the Pico though. Use a good quality 12V DC supply with at least 2 Amps, higher is better if you can swing it.
