CV1000D Multi! NOT A BOOT CHAT THREAD - Formerly: A huge project is approaching....

@bagheera369 I wrote the same reply but deleted it because I didn’t want to derail this anymore. So while I agree with you, let’s try to keep those kind of topics to other threads
I trusted @Darksoft , @rewrite, @kasaski, and the rest of the contributors here, to take it with the respect, courtesy, and admiration it was intended, and trusted my writing abilities enough to believe it would not cause further conflicts......but felt it needed to be said.

It's the last you'll here from me on the matter, other than to continue to voice support for this project, and ask the occasional question, when it arises.

Cheers all.

So in reading, is a 1000D required? Or just to run all (seems minus pink sweets with issues).

I've got a 1000B board and TBH I can stack it with 8x1000B ROMs and I'll be happy. And seems it shouldn't have issues running Pink Sweets. The 1000D nets you 4 games if you just count black label for Dai-Fukkatsu. If I feel I'm missing those I'd just get a boot and mod it to have everything.

Youre correct, cv1000d would only be required for playing 1000d games, if those arent a concern then a 1000b would be compatible. Theoretically upgrading the 1000b ram would also allow you to play 1000d games but as noted in the compatibility list, the later pinksweet roms would no longer work.

The pinball market is taking similar adjustments right now, as more and more people, get access to more and more games, and price corrections are happening there too...and I've been caught in some of that as well, for a loss......it happens.
I had people begging me to sell my Metallica LE during covid for stupid money. I might get half that now lol. It happens.

Nobody who buys games should look at them as investments. If you lose money on your hobby that just means ... you have a hobby.

Can the later 1000D games be patched if ram is added to 1000B?
Seems the best most compatible multi would be a ram upgraded Repro B.

At least not easily. There's additional signals routed to the program ROM (and RAM I think). Program ROM is twice size as on B, which needs one more address line.
I think(?) that at least one of these are routed to the FPGA so not trivial to botch wire it.

Basically the boards are very slightly different.

Could the additional RAM be added to the daughterboard along with the game roms?

It honestly doesn't make any sense that more RAM would prevent it from working typically if there is more space it simply never gets addressed and everything runs as normal. You can probably load pink sweets up under a 1000d driver in mame and see if it's ever actually addressing the upper ram space.

Yeah im still a bit lost as to why it doesn't like it, especially given the earlier versions of pinksweets run fine. Ill have another play around in mame to see if i can work it out, i missed CNY cutoff for my prototype pcb order so ill be stalled on hardware stuff till early feb.

Can anyone with a non bootleg cv1000d confirm the chip id of U1, system16 has it listed as IS42S32400D. Im doing a mouser order soon so I’ll pick up some equivalents for testing.

Metallica LE ?
Sorry, forgot that wouldn't make sense without context to many people.

Metallica Limited Edition pinball, from 2013. They only made 500, and people, especially during lockdown, were paying stupid money for pinball and especially limited versions.

Now, not only has the market cooled some since then, Stern just released a 'remastered' version of the game, with some new features. It's not necessarily 'better', but you know how people are about new and shiny. I'm sure the market valuation of my game now, compared to 2020, is quite a bit lower. Still valuable, but I 'lost' thousands or something, who knows or cares.

Anyways, my point really was only that I don't personally spend my time worrying about the value of my hobby items. It's not a stock, I don't need to time selling it at some market peak. Something happened that made it less valuable than before, and yet, it's still the same game that I always had and enjoy.

If someone can afford a $2,000 Cave board I am not mad. If their board becomes worth $1,000 later I am equally not mad lol. I hope they enjoy playing it just as much when it isn't as valuable.

The only way your stuff can make you money in this day in age and in this hobby is if you bring your machines to conventions and store them in your house when not doing cons. It's either that or you bought stuff in early 2000s and are selling it now. And if you were buying to speculate, just sell it now so the people who wanna actually use and play the games can do so instead of sitting on it like a non perishable commodity.

NO NO NO! You shut your mouth!!!! :P

Kidding of course, I fully agree with you!

It is possible to add extra RAM to a CV1000B board and get it running CV1000D games, although I don't know any specifics on how it's accomplished beyond this blurry pic. Someone out there is converting Ibara boards to DFK Black Label...

Honestly though, please stick to the bootlegs for donors and don't hack up original boards! :D
