If what he is saying happens in MAME then maybe MBL in MAME is a bad dump? Surely this would be a known issue with MAME already?

Nice fix! I had a similar issue recently with the MCU on Cybattler which was causing a delay in startup up to ten to fifteen seconds. After socketing the MCU the delay is gone and the game boots instantly each time.
