A friend of mine has been talking about getting rid of the dead homebrew cabinet (a painted over Data East 4P cab) in his living room for ages. The screen died 10 years ago, but they hadn't hauled it out. Cab itself was a total mess, but the CPS2 inside isn't what I expected.

That looks like it's going to be awesome! I love those 4 button Blast City panels, they look ideal for playing SNK stuff. Have you tried soaking off the residual label gunk with just pure alcohol? I've found that will work when other things won't.
I've got one of Tony's New Net City machines from a previous sale, fully restored by him. His work is INCREDIBLE. The cabs are truly like new collector pieces.

Ah, scratch my suspicions of the Brook board. I've been getting Sam Sho 3 crashes with regular AES controllers too. Maybe I just got lucky earlier in the day and got that one good session in by luck.
Checked with different controllers (real Neo Geo ones) and the crash / reboots still happen on Galaxy Fight and Super Dodgeball. I also tried them in other "slots" on the cartridge. Weird. Super Dodgeball remains playable when I skip the Attract video- and one of the crashes, I noticed numbers...
